Check us out at our new home:
Hey everyone guess what we did last week?
We went with Bee and Ms. Kimball to her friend Visjna’s art studio, the Textile Arts Center. When we got there, Ms. Kimball kept knocking on the door but her friend didn’t answer because her back was turned to us. Finally, Visjna opened the door then we entered and sat on the floor and she started started to talk to us about weaving. Then she said “have you kids been doing weaving at your school?”, and we said “yes.” Then she said “ok this will be easy for you guys and girls”.
Then she said “we will be doing weaving today”, then we said “cool!”
Then she said “look at the yarn and choose which one you want to use.” We started looking at the yarn then she said to pick one then everybody picked one. I picked one and it was red.
Ms.Kimball started calling us for groups and I was in group 5 and I went to my loom.
Then all we had to do was put the string on the loom, put our feet on the pedals, put our yarn through the other strings and pull back the beater to push our yarn together. Then you keep repeating it.
I finished and then all we had time for was to make one more. Then Ms. Kimball said “you guys know you can make one for me.”
Then I thought about making one for Bee then I started weaving one for her. Then the class finished. Then I finished making my weaving project for Bee.
I went to florida to see Disney World. I went to MagicKingdom. Buzz Lightyear Space Spin, Snitch’s Great Escape, Peter Pan Flight, the Magic Carpet of Aladdin and Pirates of the Caribbean. I went on the Jetblue plane. I saw my Godmother Michele and my Godbrother Jahari. The hotel was big.
For those of you who don’t know already, last week the 4Fives had an amazing visit from Katy Wright and Jackson. Katy works on a bunch of things, but she came to talk to us about how she rescues food and furniture from the trash and also about civil rights. We learned a lot from her visit, and it was really interesting, because we do a lot of recycling and upcycling projects with Bee and Ms. Kimball.
A friend of Jackson’s (the awesome Mr. Justin) read about Katy’s visit to the 4Fives on SuperForest, and sent him an email saying that he thinks it’s a bad idea to tell kids that it’s okay to take food out of the garbage to eat it. Jackson sent the email to Bee, and Bee read the email to us. Then we has a REALLY REALLY REALLY long talk about both sides of the issue, and decided to write a post about it. We also made this little video to share our thoughts.
What do you think?
My name is Maya and I am going to tell you about a great visit that we had yesterday from a great woman… Katy Wright! She taught us about finding treasures, and she also taught us about a very sad thing that is going on in a part of Africa.
Today I made a video to tell you about our experience. I hope that you enjoy it.
My name is Nicholas. I am going to tell you about the cool trip that we went on yesterday.
So yesterday the 4Fives went on a trip to Grand Central Station for Veggie Central. Before we left school we all put on our veggie t-shirts and Bee made us go to the bathroom just in case.
First, we went on the train. We took the F train to 42nd street. Then we walked forever and finally got to Grand Central Station. When we went in the place we couldn’t find the people that we were going to meet for the veggie trip and we almost got lost. Finally we saw a guy and we were like “where are the veggie people?” He helped us find them. And then we saw a bunch of kids in the same veggie t-shirts that we had on and Bee’s friends.
Then we sat down and had some lunch.
Then we went upstairs and we saw a bunch of fountains of ranch dressing. I said to Bee “It smells bad, like vegetables”, and she said, “no, it smells bad, like ranch dressing.” But some people like ranch dressing, so it didn’t smell bad for them.
Then we sat down with two other classes and a lady taught us how to plant vegetable seeds. She called on me to come up front and plant a seed. It was cool. I learned something that when you grow seed’s you need to have 1.Soil 2. Water and 3. Sun. And I learned something else too… that when you grow a seed you need to have it in a safe place because if rabbits eat them your garden is going to all gone.
I was a little bit nervous because there was a lot of people there filming and taking pictures and taking notes. Those people were called the media. They were there because they wanted to write about what was happening.
And then something really exciting happened. A famous person named Jennie Garth told us that veggies are really important and then she told us to decorate some bagels with veggies. Vegetables make you healthy. If you don’t like the taste of vegetables, you can dip them in ranch to make them taste better. So we made some smiley-face bagels. We had a lot of fun.
And I am going to tell you the steps to make a smiley-face veggie bagel.
Step 1: Spread ranch dressing on the bagel so that the veggies will stick to it.
Step 2: Choose some round veggies like tomatoes for the eyeballs and stick them on the bagel.
Step 3: Choose another veggie like broccoli for the nose and stick it on the bagel under the tomato eyeballs.
Step 4: Choose another veggie like carrots for the mouth and stick it on the bagel under the mouth.
And that is how you make a veggie smiley-face bagel. After we finished making the bagels, Bee took a picture of her and the 4Fives. It was cool.
I hope that you liked my post!
Last week, the ever-fabulous Ms. Kimball showed the 4Fives how to make movable artist models. The models are helping the 4Fives learn how to draw realistic figures.
